Being in an animal shelter can be a scary and stressful thing for a cat. The sights, sounds, smells, and overall experience is often overwhelming to cats who love their routines and predictable environments. Over the past three years as an animal shelter volunteer, I’ve seen how much feline enrichment helps cats adjust to the shelter or foster home environment, and how it helps them find homes faster, reduces their stress levels, and improves their quality of life.
This website is dedicated to different cat enrichment ideas, both DIY cat enrichment and products for sale, that help kitties during their journey to a forever home. While the focus of this site is on providing enrichment to cats in kennels, as well as those in group holding rooms, many of the ideas also work well for foster homes and forever homes.
As far as my personal background goes, I have three years of experience working with cats of all behavior levels at a high-volume, open-admission shelter, as well as fostering special needs and behavior cats. My specialty is helping community cats adjust to living indoors, and helping three legged cats adjust following their leg amputation surgeries. Pre-pandemic, I hosted cat toy craft nights where we created DIY cat toys for the animal shelter with a group of wonderful volunteers. I also made handmade cat toys for sale, and am studying to become a certified feline behaviorist.
